The Searsy sisters — senior Lillian and junior Madeline — performed ballet dances from The Nutcracker for elementary music teacher Deja Armstrong’s first-grade class last Wednesday.
This year will be Madeline’s tenth and Lillian’s twelfth year dancing in the Christmas season classic with Ballet San Angelo.
“It’s cool that Mrs. Armstrong is showing these kids this,” Madeline said. “And that we get to share our love for our craft in an art form.”
The show will run four performances this weekend at Murphey Performance Hall in downtown San Angelo. Madeline will dance in the Waltz of the Snowflakes, Waltz of the Flowers and as the lead in the Chinese Dance.
Lillian will dance in the party scene, the Waltz of the Snowflakes, Waltz of the Flowers, and as the lead in the Spanish Dance.
“I started out as an angel, then got to be a mouse,” Lillian, who dances in her final Nutcracker with BSA this weekend, said. “Now, I get to be in these lead roles and be in the corps with my pointe shoes, which means a lot to me.”
