WHS National Honor Society hosted a hamburger supper on January 27th in the High School commons with new sponsor, Kim Jordan, taking the reins.

The hamburger supper was brought back after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The profits for the hamburger supper will be used for the NHS angel tree project as well as other funds.

I’m encouraging the officers to do as much of the leg work as possible because it’s their organization,” Jordan said. “The officers have created flyers to get the word out to all of the campuses and the community. In the past we typically saw 400-600 burgers sold, so we will see how we do.”

Officers and members of NHS were required to work the supper. They started making preparations weeks before the event.

“I’m making posters for the entrance,” Senior Vice President Brooke Lehr said. “We also have to make sure that everything is ready to go, like cutting up vegetables and that everything is washed and cleaned. We have to set time slots for everyone to work their community service.”

Jordan took over the sponsorship of NHS after Sharon Haney retired.

Mrs. Haney gave me lots of details and notebooks full of information to help prepare me for what to do,” Jordan said. “It has been fun getting the officers and the executive committee to be the ones running it and delegating to them what needs to be done.”

The turn out of the event was as expected, many people came and most of the burgers were sold with around 70 remaining. NHS officers and members gained memories and work experience.

“Jonah Felger swept probably the whole commons and the kitchen twice,” Jordan said. “I was amazed he could sweep so well, his mom would be proud.”
