Prom Returns to Cactus Hotel
After Covid forced a change, the formal dance resumes at traditional venue

The upcoming junior and senior prom has excitement in the air at Wall High School.
The prom will be on March 25 and will be located at the Cactus Hotel in downtown San Angelo. The prom is organized by a committee led by Mrs. Sorelle. The theme is Old World Elegance, and the committee has stated that students will have lots to look forward to at the upcoming formal.
“We took the location of the prom, the Cactus Hotel, and we love its history there, so we were going for vintage and almost roaring 20s for inspiration,” junior committee member Avery Jameson said.
The old world elegance theme will be illustrated through decorations at the venue. Items such as tablecloths, centerpieces, photo opportunities and more will reflect the theme.
“I think the theme is really cool and it’s going to turn out good,” junior prom committee member Bryson Hirt said. “It is definitely different from years past from my understanding, but it will turn out great. Prom is an important event, and it’s something that the seniors will remember so I really wanted to be a part of creating and planning the formal.”
After multiple years at a different location due to Covid, the prom committee has made the decision to relocate prom back to the Cactus Hotel in 2023.
“I think it will be nice getting back to the Cactus, and I think that it is probably our number one location for the dance,” principal Ryan Snowden said.
The prom committee consists of all junior class members and junior sponsors. The committee makes all decisions surrounding the organization of the dance.
“Prom committee is an open selection so anyone who wants to be on the prom committee can,” sponsor Elizabeth Sorelle said. “Then we also have sub-committees, but the kids really decide what role they want to play in the organization because we think it should be student-led.”
The formal is open to all junior and seniors at the high school. In addition, all attending guests have the opportunity to bring a plus one. The dance will be from 7:30 to 11 p.m. and will have music, food, refreshments and picture opportunities for all attending guests.
“I think it is neat having a formal night,” Snowden said. “Most of our students aren’t used to going to something like that, so it is fun getting dressed up, going to a nice place, like the Cactus, and being able to enjoy the night with all of your classmates.”
