The Wall Middle School library has started hosting a variety of clubs for its students, a program started by librarian Gina Holifield.

The clubs allow students to participate in activities such as Lego building and bracelet making. Holifield said the clubs’ popularity has grown quickly.

“It is new,” Holifield said. “I started it when I became the librarian here, and it has grown. We started out with around 20 kids, and now we are up to around 60 who want to participate.”

Holifield plans to expand the activities offered as the year progresses to allow students to further their interests in non-school related subjects.

“We are also planning on doing some ‘how to’ classes throughout the year,” Holifield said, adding that she would be starting a “tiny houses” building group in the spring semester.

Students have shown interest in the clubs and have loved attending.

“When I first heard of the class I thought, ‘Well, this is different’,” sixth-grader Brayden Bomer said. “I have never heard of the Lego club, but I thought it was a new opportunity to get better.”

Many students have said they enjoy the classes’ subject matter, and one explained why she thinks they have been such a success.

“I started going because Mrs. Holifield is a really good teacher,” seventh-grader Rylee Coleman said.

The clubs have grabbed students’ attention and continue to provide learning opportunities for them outside of the regular classroom.

“This is one of the best decisions,” Bomer said. “Because now I have already got really good at Legos.”
