Here for the Hawks

The buzzer wails off as the student section roars with excitement. The competition rocks the gym and fans are up on their feet. Noise from the Hawk side deafens the ears of the opponent and shakes the home side free of defeat.

The varsity boys basketball team has cruised to a 6-0 at-home record (5-1 in district; 11-8 overall), thanks, in part, to a rowdy, committed student section that shows up night after night to cheer their team on to victory.

“It gives our players a lot of energy and momentum,” varsity boys head basketball coach Travis Dawson said about the student section. “It also rattles the opponents at times, and I hope it keeps up.”

The student section has always been a very important part of Wall Hawk spirit, and can push the players to focus more.

“They are a great source of energy,” senior guard Jacob Felger said.

Although many fans pile into the gym, the student section is the powerhouse for the Hawks. The students are committed to encouraging their classmates on the court, and, according to senior Lane Constancio, they truly believe their enthusiasm can affect the outcome of the game.

“Our student section is, without question, the magnum opus of fandoms,” Constancio said. “We are an imposing force to be reckoned with. I’m sure the opposing players have nightmares about us.”

If nothing else, the student section ensures the games will not be boring.

“I love it,” Dawson said. “They are over there rowdy and affecting the game. It also just makes the environment better.”
