The senior class will soon be leaving Wall High School, and they have made their mark in many ways. One senior in particular, Gracie McMillan, a member of the Lady Hawks golf team, will be moving up to the next level. She recently signed to play golf for Mary Hardin-Baylor University after graduation.

Mary Hardin-Baylor is a private, Baptist university in Belton, Texas. Their sports compete in the NCAA Division III conference, and current enrollment is 3,876 students. The campus itself is very beautiful and feels like a home away from home, according to McMillan.

“The school is a very small campus, very easy to get around,” she said. “I fell in love with the campus, first of all, it was very homey feeling, and I love the coach and all the players. I feel like I can just fit in there,”

Though the campus is amazing, McMillan is still nervous to leave Wall.

“I’m only nervous about moving away from my family,” she said. “I feel like that’ll be a big change but, other than that, I’m very excited to go play golf there.”

McMillan has accomplished a great feat by getting to the next level, according to Wall High School head girls golf coach Rob Londerholm. He said he always knew she could make it to the next level.

“I see how hard [my team] work[s], and Gracie’s no exception,” Londerholm said. “She works just as hard as anybody on her team. […] She is the first off this team, but she won’t be the last.”

Londerholm also said he knows he’ll miss McMillan once she’s moved on for multiple reasons.

“Oh, she’s just fun to be around,” he said. “Works hard, really keeps the stress out of it. […] Not a whole lot of drama that goes on. [She’s] just easy to coach and fun to be around.”

Even though McMillan is leaving, the Lady Hawks still have one more season with her. And she and Londerholm think they’ll have a great season.

“I think we have a very talented team coming back, and… not just talent, just a lot of good pieces, and the qualities that you want in teams are there,” Londerholm said. “So, I think we’ll have a pretty successful year.”

McMillan and the Lady Hawks will start their season in January of 2022.
