The newest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has taken the audience (and critics) by surprise.

The main character, Shang-Chi (played by Simu Liu) must confront his demons from his past, including his father and leader of the mysterious Ten Rings organization, the Mandarin (played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai). With his best friend, Katy (played by Awkwafina), and his sister, Xialing (played by Meng’er Zhang), Shang-Chi will have to use his martial arts skills and new powers to defeat the Mandarin before the villain unleashes an ancient and indescribable evil on the world.

Viewers and fans of the franchise, old and new, are already giving their opinions about what makes the movie memorable.

“For one, loved the soundtrack,” junior Natalya Fedotova, a new fan of the Marvel movies, said. “…I love good music in movies. It always makes the movie ten times better. Umm, I liked the whole general plot of the movie. I like how the villain had a lot of depth to him.”

Longtime fans of the franchise also had good things to say about Shang-Chi.

“I enjoyed a lot of the characters,” junior Dietrich Jost, an expert and fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said. “I also enjoyed how cultural it was. They did amazing with the culture. I rate it 7.9 out of 10 overall.”

Fans new and old have found that Shang-Chi is one of the best movies of the year. Personally, I think that this was one of Marvel’s best creations as of yet and rate it 8 out of 10.

The movie was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz.
